Detailed Laos Discovery Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrival in Vientiane
Arrive in Vientiane, meet our staff and transfer to your hotel. The city is charming, with a unique blend of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, and American cultures. After a short rest, visit key sights: Wat Sisaket (the oldest temple with thousands of Buddha statues), Wat Prakeo (former royal temple), That Luang Stupa (the most important monument in Laos), and Patuxay Monument (Vientiane’s Arc de Triomphe). Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 2: Vientiane – Vang Vieng (Express train 15:05 – 16:10)
After breakfast, visit Buddha Park with over 200 unique Buddhist and Hindu statues near the Friendship Bridge. If time permits, stop by the Morning Market and Ban Nong Bouathong weaving village. Take the express train to Vang Vieng, a peaceful town by the Nam Song River. End the day with a beautiful sunset on the river.

DAY 3: Vang Vieng – Tham Jang Cave
After hotel check-in, explore Tham Jang Cave, once a shelter for locals during invasions. Drive through rice fields to Tham Phoukham Cave, a stunning limestone cave in the forest. Meet local villagers and learn about their daily life. Swim or relax in the natural pool in front of the cave. Overnight in Vang Vieng.

DAY 4: Vang Vieng – Luang Prabang (Express train 08:30 – 09:30)
After breakfast, take the express train to Luang Prabang. Check in to your hotel. Luang Prabang is UNESCO-listed as the best-preserved city in Southeast Asia. Visit the National Museum (former Royal Palace) with its rich cultural artifacts, climb Mount Phousi for a panoramic sunset view, and explore the Night Market with handmade crafts from locals.
Note: Vehicles over 16 seats are not allowed in Luang Prabang city center.

DAY 5: Luang Prabang – Kuang Si Waterfalls
After breakfast, visit famous temples: Wat Sene (the oldest temple) and Wat Xieng Thong with its “tree of life” mosaic. Continue to beautiful Kuang Si Waterfalls, stopping at ethnic villages along the way. Swim in turquoise pools or walk forest trails. Optional visit to the Bear Rescue Center near the waterfall.
Return to Luang Prabang, visit Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center by the Mekong River, see traditional weaving and batik making, and enjoy the river sunset. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 6: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Cave – Nongkhiau
Cruise upstream on the Mekong, enjoy peaceful countryside views. Stop at Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of Buddha images. Continue to Nongkhiau, visit Tham Pha Tok Cave (historic war shelter) and Ban Manda War Museum (community stories of Lao resilience).
If time permits, trek to Pha Xomnang Viewpoint for stunning mountain and valley views. Free time for relaxation. Overnight in Nongkhiau.

DAY 7: Nongkhiau – Tad Mork – Luang Prabang
Start your day with a local long boat ride upstream through scenic landscapes. Visit a riverside village and, if on a weekday, the local school. Trek about 1 hour to Tad Mork waterfall near Ban Sop Kong (Khmu village), swim and relax at the falls. Return by boat to Nongkhiau, then transfer back to Luang Prabang for overnight.

DAY 8: Luang Prabang – Departure
After breakfast, if time allows, visit Phosi Market to see local specialties like dried buffalo skin, Lao tea, saltpeter, and handwoven textiles. Transfer to the airport for your departure.
